Diary of a Mad Dog
by Jason Thurston Only 17 years after Cypress Hill’s debut (and two years following a collaboration with brother Mellow Man Ace), gruff-voiced MC Sen Dog steps out on his own. He’s signed to the quirky, multi-purpose indie Suburban Noize and in the spirit of his former band, his debut record, DIARY OF A MAD DOG, is a spare, lo-fi affair rife with violent lyrics brashly spit. The LP opens in classic storytelling style with “Fumble,” injects the soul of a gangster on “Capo,” and, by the anthemic “Biggy Bang,” Sen Dog proves he’s still a master of the chorus chant.
