What makes the first volume of these quartet sessions (with pianist Jan Johansson) special is that much of the material (including "Pammie's Tune," "I Like to Recognize the Tune" and the previously unissued "A New Town Is a Blue Town") is fresh and some of it is quite obscure. Even on "Night and Day" and Dave Brubeck's "In Your Own Sweet Way," Getz's playing is enthusiastic and full of surprising twists.
