by Scott YanowThe music on this CD (released for the first time in 1994) features a group accurately dubbed "the Three Bosses." Comprised of pianist Bud Powell, bassist Pierre Michelot and drummer Kenny Clarke, this was a tight trio that lived up to its potential. The innovative pianist is in excellent form, performing four Thelonious Monk tunes along with four jazz standards. Highpoints include "Shaw Nuff" and "Night in Tunisia." The only problem is the brevity of this CD which at 35 minutes should have been twice as long.
