Sketches Of The Architect (Scion Radio 17 Host EP)
One of the most celebrated DJ/producers to ever flip a fader, Rob Swift is a living legend who has influenced an entire generation of deck diablos. His lengthy resume includes co-founding supergroup the X-Ecutioners, winning DMC and ITF titles, contributing to numerous classic albums (including turntablism manifestoes Return of the DJ and Deep Concentration), dropping four excellent solo records, and collaborating with everyone from Fat Joe and Akinyele to Herbie Hancock and Bob James. On Sketches of the Architect, he presents us with a six-track EP utilizing raw material from his recent solo album The Architect, combining fragments of obscure classical music with bombastic drum breaks, spoken word clips, well-placed sound effects, and of course, tons of furious scratching. Ideal for fans of Cut Chemist, Q-Bert, DJ Quest, and the like, it is simultaneously bugged-out and catchy, unpredictable yet thoroughly funky. Breez Evahflowin rhymes on two joints, but the more instrumental stuff, specifically "Fabric of an Orchestra" and "Boss of the Cross" are extra dope.
