Trancience
Recent triple PROG Award winner Steven Wilson has released ‘Transience’, his first ever compilation, on vinyl only. This move cements Steven’s stance on avoiding ‘freemium’ streaming sites and contributes to the ongoing debate about the value of music. Steven has been vocal about his feelings about ‘freemium’ and is passionate about sharing the aesthetics and value of physical product. “People are always asking me why I’m not on Spotify, and it’s really difficult – as I know I am missing out on potential discovery. I just think the model is flawed unfortunately. My kind of solution to that is to go in the other direction and try to make the physical piece as appealing and as attractive as possible. Doing special editions, making nice vinyl, making the shows as visually spectacular as they can.” As a staunch supporter of bespoke high-end physical project, ‘Transience’ continues Steven’s tradition of combining his cutting edge music and beautiful packages. It is a vinyl-only limited run, delivered as 2x LPs in a gatefold package, with a handwritten lyric etching on side 4. Eschewing from streaming sites such as Spotify and encouraging fans to engage and take ownership of music, has seen Steven Wilson reach great levels of success, with his current album ‘Hand. Cannot. Erase.’ reaching #13 in the UK album charts. Steven was recently the winner of an unprecedented 3 PROG Awards for Best Album, Commercial Breakthrough, and Boxset Design, and his current album ‘Hand. Cannot. Erase.’ has now been nominated for Classic Rock’s Album of the Year.
