Lost and Found

by Kingsley MarshallLike KRS-One's desire to edutain, Oliver Bondzio and Ramon Zenker, the backroom producers behind Dadamnphreaknoizphunk, described this collation of their acid-flecked burrowings in downbeat as a workspective. Hackneyed though this term may be, their work under the Hardfloor sobriquet was far from being maladroit, and it is the pair's numerous releases recorded under that moniker for Sven Vath's hugely influential Harthouse imprint from which the contents of the appropriately titled Lost and Found have been plucked. Considering the disparate nature of the selection process, the album flows with surprising savvy, the drunken swagger of "Ain't Nuttin But a Format Thang" offering both contrast and complement to the dubbed "Knuckle Skills" and the tinkled ivories that add further sparkle to the ear candy of "Lunchcorner." Ultimately, however, these tracks were never intended to appear on the same body of work, and cracks do show as the album progresses -- and though they are sure to expand their fan base among those previously unfamiliar with their work, those with prior knowledge are advised to steer toward later Bondzio and Zenker's long-overdue new material, due late 2003/early 2004.
