This is one of the few Freddie recordings in the 1980's that proved Freddie's ability to drop the junk for at least a day, settle down, and make some good music. With the wank factor decreased, Freddie really shines, especially on Dual Force by Buster Williams (which mysteriously appeared as "Firewater" on Herbie Hancock's 1969 Lp "The Prisoner") and Loss by Eric Dolphy (Or "Les", from 1960's "Outward Bound", also featuring Freddie). My only complaint is the mix of the album - the piano track sounds like it's being phoned in from a telephone booth, and the bass is a little boomy. Also, special mention to Buster Williams for his solid bass playing - this is just further proof that he was one of the best "pick-up" session players of the time.
