Nothing Seems Real
Leaf hails from Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. With their unique take on psychedelic rock and roll, the band comes together to create loud and heavy walls of sound that take equally from their influences and years of experience. Spanning the hardcore, indie-rock and garage eras, the members of Leaf have already cut their collective teeth in well-known underground acts like hardcore legends, Insight, Touch & Go Records garage rockers, Crystal Antlers, 70s psych rockers, Sweet Evil, and, Estrus Records garage punks, The Gimmicks, and the high energy punk rock and roll group The Orphans. Leaf is Mark Starr on guitar & vocals, Phil Shelly on bass, Andrew King on guitar, and Brandon D Werts on drums. The group is focused on bringing their rumbling, guitar-driven noise to audiences throughout Los Angeles and beyond. Leaf has shared the stage with The Telescopes, The Warlocks, LA Witch, LSD and The Search For God, and The Spirial Electric. Leaf create a huge sound that draws heavily from groundwork laid in the 70s by acts like Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, and Hawkwind, while exploring, with an equally enthusi- astic nod to the expansionist visions of 90s experimentalists like My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, Loop, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and Slowdive. Leaf are a sonically blissed-out group with a love of heavy riffing and big glorious hooks buried under a fog of fuzz and drone so deep structures and grooves barely eke their way out. The resultant sound is solidly new, while resting firmly in a proud rock ‘n roll heri- tage. Leaf are ready to bring melody to noise for an ever-widening audience. ’Their music is paradoxically linked back to everything good that came out of the early 90’s shoegaze scene with pivotal artists such as ‘Swervedriver, The Verve, MBV & Ride’ being bandied about as references to their collective sound’ Del Chaney November 15 2016 for Primal Music ‘Playing a brilliant combination of 70's arena rock and 90's alternative, "Wait Until" is the second single from the L.A. based band LEAF. This slow paced number is full of fuzzed out riffs in the vein of Dinosaur Jr, Pavement and 70's garage rockers Dust. There's also a charming quality to the vocals that make me think of early Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev. It's honest and warm and I can't wait to hear more.’ Custom Made Music February 5 2015 custommademusic.blogspot.com
