Advent at Old St. Paul's

The liturgies of Advent, the music that goes with them, with their austere sense of waiting, wonder, and hope, invite us to contemplate the unexpected: the coming of Christ - in the stable at Bethlehem and the life, death and resurrection of Jesus; and in the coming kingdom of God - and in our own lives and deaths. Advent is an invitation to reflect on what we truly need and long for in life. It is a summons to know ourselves and the God who is coming to meet us. The choice of music on this recording reflects the varied musical repertoire to be heard in Old Saint Paul's on the four Sundays of Advent, and at the evocative and beautiful carol service held annually on the first Sunday of Advent.
