Vivaldi: Complete Lute Music
by James Leonard When this BIS disc of Vivaldi's lute works by Jakob Lindberg with Nils-Erik Sparf leading the Drottningholm Court Baroque Ensemble was first released in 1985, it was instantly acknowledged as a classic recording. Lindberg's virtuosity was amazing, his tonal beauty was astonishing, and his interpretative clarity was astounding. Sparf and the Drottningholm accompaniment was superbly poised, supremely sensitive, and sublimely soulful. BIS' digital sound was light, lucid, warm, and years ahead of most other companies' digital sound. Now that BIS has reissued the disc at a mid-price with the addition of Lindberg's equally fine 1985 and 1992 recordings of Zamboni's Sonata in C minor and Bach's Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, a classic recording has been made even better. Anyone who likes beautiful music will like this disc.
