This is one of the finest recordings from Andrei Gavrilov. His performances are technically perfect, yet passionate readings of Bach's keyboard concerti. So true is his playing of the French Suite. These stellar performances are in stark contrast to some other recordings people have heard of him playing modern works from the likes of Rachmaninoff, which are dazzling displays of keyboard pyrotechnics. Here he opts for a subdued, nuanced set of performances, which still show ample color and warmth in the playing of Bach's scores.
