I'm a UK G
Recently on the UK Underground there has been something of a 2-Step revival; distinctively skippy drums and deep, Wookie-esque basses are being celebrated in spite of the clumsy half-step Dub that unfortunately dominates both clubs and the radio. Moony's latest release, the 'I'm a UK G' EP on Gobstopper records, is a product of these sentiments. Released on the 2nd of December, the 'I'm a UK G' EP explores some of the most current and interesting nuances of the UK underground. The title track harnesses the bubbly, feel-good energy of 2-Step with massive drops and a heady juxtaposition of smooth vocals against ruff rudeboy bass. So impressed was BBC 1xtra's DJ Q that he's invited Moony for a guest mix on his show on the 22nd November. The two other features on the 'I'm a UK G' EP - 'Waiting' and 'Distant Clubber' - attempt to take root in the broken ground currently being churned between Grime and Garage. Indeed, phuture-funk excursion 'Waiting' and the jumpy 'Distant Clubber' would feature as fittingly in a Todd Edwards mix as it would a Preditah one. With the 'I'm a UK G' EP, Moony has truly established himself as a producer to watch over the next 12 months, drawing on influences from throughout his 10-year career to create a fresh, revivalist hit that will not only ignite dance floors, but provide new focus for a fractured scene.
