Brothers Unite
Porchy – Brothers Unite EP The first EP in the H&T catalogue introduces us to the label with a combined effort from label bosses Craig De Sousa and Roger D’Lux. Considered by these two veterans of the South African house scene as a ‘sentimental’ first release, ‘The Haircut’ and ‘Bad Boy’ were produced in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Side A was named after stepping out of studio for a haircut and a break resulted in the infectious hook that now leads this bottom heavy funk tech track. A strong nod to 80’s analogue can be heard throughout this bounce-based production that has had massive success locally having been featured on no less than four DJ compilations. Side B makes for the perfect counterpart to ‘The Haircut’. In ‘Bad Boy’ we have a funk laden filtered tech house masterpiece that slyly samples East Coast sections from the Bad Boy crew, and slots them seamlessly into another bass boiling dance floor destroyer.
