Knuckle Sandwich Album Sampler
Rico Tubbs - Knuckle Sandwich Album Sampler Album out May 2008 Sampler out April 2008 Rico Tubbs - The finish lion of everything funk is here and he aint going anywhere till you bow at his overly skin tight jeans and kiss his ethically sound sneakers. and this is exactly what you will be doing when you hear his brand new album Knuckle Sandwich on Menu Music. Featuring the club monster Gangsters, this full length player is packed to the brim with full on monster mashouts. Menu could not keep it down any longer and with unprecedented early support from Tayo, Krafty Kuts, Crooked, Soul Of Man, Si Begg, Deekline, Stanton Warriors, Switch, Crookers, Drop The Lime & Sinden you know this is going to be special (especially when half the DJs are on our case for the tracks!) Ricos sound has developed over time with all his releases on Menu, and various other releases & remixs on other labels. But we think that hes hit the nail firmly on the head with this set. Bottom heavy UK garage influenced bass lines, hip hop samples, cracking snares, and Baltimore grooves. Rico pulls it all in to make a heady album for your feet. Not many modern breaks Producers can call on the amount of influences Rico has for his album. Simply put, this is his finest work to date and we are proud to bring it to you as Menus first ever full length album release. You wont be disappointed. Rico Tubbs Gangsters Menu Music 4.5 The Finnish producer has obviously been listening to some Sinden & Hervé, as Gangsters is very much on a ghetto house vibe. Old skool rave horns, sirens and Mentasm stabs prepare the ground for skippy garage beats and a wobbly bass and the dynamic Gangsters male vocal sample, of course. Informed by breakbeat, this is shaping up into being another big release from Menu. Hot Girls Dope Boys is in a similar vein although not as hot, and Born To Bounce is a cool DJ tool. All are expected on Ricos soon-come album Knickle Sandwich on Menu. CL Daily Record Paper Scotland - Pick of three for me are the Rico Tubbs tracks. Really different, great basslines, would work on the radio and on the dancefloor, plus it's a good bit of fun too. I'll try squeeze this in in the coming weeks before release EQ PDF magazine CONFIRMED. Rico Tubbs Knuckle Sandwich Album Sampler Here are three cuts taken from the Finnish maestros forthcoming Knuckle Sandwich album and Rico is down with funk on these cuts big time. It opens with the unbelievable Gangsters, which kicks off like a speeding train. This is a bastard cross between jacking house and old skool rave, with pumping beats, soaring, stabbing synthlines and big, cheeky samples. This tune will rock any dancefloor. Rolling on we get yet another phat and funky mastercut in the form of Hot Girls Dope Boys. Full of lush keys and a swamping bassline, this track really comes alive at the soulful breakdown which is just sublime. The final cut is the majestic Born To Bounce that keeps true to its name. Bubbling beats and basslines drive this tune, while the old-skool stabs and a very cheeky sample (Let Me Clear My Throat) give it that raw, dirty edge. Big release. Out on Menu Music Flux- TBC Possible review. still waiting to find out... IDJ Hi Sonia Love the rico tubbs stuff....very basstastic I am just reviewing the Rico TUbbs Album Taster Rennie Pilgrem IDJ CONFIRMED. should be April issue Rico Tubbs - Gangsters (Menu Music) By mere definition a breaks track will always draw influences from other styles. Rico Tubbs takes this to a new level with a 3 track relase that has influences of old skool hardcore, shuffle house, hip hop, ghetto-tech, broken beat - you name it. Unsurprisingly Finland's finest pulls it off in style. The crowd will be throwing 1991-esque shapes uncontrollably within seconds of the first rave synth - massive! 4/5 Knowledge NO but i will contact the other reviewer see if he is up for it. I havent had space for unfortunately. Lurch Knowledge guest reviews Si Begg CONFIRMED Rico Tubbs Gangsters Menu Music If you want to call it bassline house thats all good but its pretty much speed garage at the end of the day and Ive loved that sh*t from day one. However uncool it is or was, it always tears up the floors of any denomination. Now our man Rico has taken a bit of speed garage with all its rave influence stuffed in a bit of Switch and bit of breaks and what you get is some proper dancefloor destruction. This is a crackin EP especially Gangsters, the floor will love you for this one. Im told theres an album on the way, one word, wheres my promo copy hmmmm? Live Magazine- (youth mag free in schools/ youth centres) M8 CONFIRMED April issue .RECOMMENDED Rico Tubbs Gangsters EPMENU Some serious ass gyrating action ahead of the Finish sex puppy Rico Tubbs album on this extremely strong 3 track E.P. Its cheeky, up beat, booty bouncing Baltimore stylee, rave punctuated (is that the Quadrophenia 80s rave stabs?) breaks are destined for peak time party action. Complete with Gangsters, vocal samples and gun shots, I dare you to not shake yo ass to this. Hot Girls, Dope Boys sees lush breakdowns circa early 90s wrapped round squelch bass and snappy drum action, and Born To Bounce keeps to a similar vein and quality! An excellent fusion of booty and the tingling sensations of rave! M8/M8 RECOMMENDED Mixmag TBC Hey there Really liking Hot Girls and Dope Boys. Strong EP here, full support from me for sure! xoxo . Data Transmission - CONFIRMED Rico Tubbs Gangsters EP Reviewed by:Matty O Rating:7/10 A believer in forming the most unholy of breaks-based alliances, Tubbs previous involvement with Top 40 intruders Bomfunk MCs is blatant throughout a triple-tracker of breaks wearing both white gloves and a New Era 5950 brim. Forget slight of hand to integrate Ricos b-boy foundations; theyre all slapped down and crowbarred into an all-consuming inventory. Born to Bounce is a spewing blender of styles, whipping up a thick shake of 900 Number horns, speed garage low ends, Mentasm rave stabs, hip-hop yap and jungle twitches. Of the same blueprint, Gangsters glues together T99s Anasthasia, Nas samples and meaty Shut Up and Dance-style bass fiddling. Hot Girls Dope Boys gets crunk at altitude, and the different angles of energy become grudgingly hard to snub. Tubbs unrepentant baulking at strict categorisation definitely shakes the club up D n B Forum should be cool to go in will let u know (can run a comp too ill see what editor says) Dont Stay In CONFIRMED Eclectro (Netherlands) ??? I just love this so much. Best tune since 2007 !!!! Well done Mr Tubbs....can't wait to hear the album ! Rico Tubbs - Hot Girls Dope Boys 3 / 10 : the track starting very well and suddenly there's this cheap old school synth that I can't really bear, to bad cause I do love "Gangster" a lot. And this b-side is just horrible...too bad we missed the masterpiece. Review : Yes Radio & Gigs : Yes De La Breaks French Radio Ibreaks INHALE CONFIRMED http://www.inhale.org.uk/features/?ih=ih_rev_360 Finland's breaks pioneer drops the sampler of his new album..... Ah Rico Tubbs. I remember the first time I heard Kickin' Down, many moons ago. Well, a long time has pass since then, and it's good to know that Rico's sound has gone from strength to strength. First up is Gangsters. Rave era stabs and eponymous vocals are a heavy element of the intro to this tune, which has a distinctly old skool vibe to it. Heavily effected police sirens usher in the first break, before an extended vocal sample accompanies a bassline that is fat with a capital F. The overall arrangement of this tune isn't strictly what I'd refer to as breaks, and it's mix of rave, house and hip hop elements means this wouldn't be a tune to find out of place in the playlists of Switch and Sinden, as well as certain DJs within the burgeoning Baltimore scene. A surefire funk filler winner. Continung the trend, Hot Boys Dope Girls carries with it a similar boompty feel to it. The bassline comes in more swiftly in this tune, and it's pace and wobble factor give a proper bouncing feel to the track. Double claps and more of those old skool stabs mean this is to a certain extent Gangsters pt 2, but to say was entirely the case would to be detract from this track. The second half of the tune introduces a gently rising chord sequence which again adds to the old skool, but at the same time gives things a more emotive feel to them. Finally, Born To Bounce is a more laidback tune. A heavily filtered 45 King sample provides the main hook of this track, and again means this is again on the hip hop side of things, borrowing from the elements introduced in the first two tracks on this release. More of a set filler than the previous two, this is still no less an accomplished piece of work, though at only 3m08s, you somehow feel it's inclusion is an after thought more than anything else. Overall, a fine insight into Rico's work, with Gangsters leading the way in peak time potential. In the Mix site (Australia)- editor is chasing reviewers to find out if it will get a review.. mofomag on line Nubreaks NuSkoolbreaks CONFIRMED Rico Tubbs / Gangsters / Hot Girls & Dope Boys / Born To Bounce / Menu Menu is now the new pimp-ass gangster-**** label of London. Move over all you bad bwoy garage labels because Menu is on the take-over, this is the real ****. Label boss Jay Cunning & Rico Tubbs will be rollin in some hot rides and big rims in ya hood. Three pimpin gangster rollers and phat jams to impress ya hommies with in the package. Gangster's drops hardcore rave-esque stabs and shotgun blasts on gangster lyrics while the low-rider-bass-action brings the perfect backdrop to any hood. Now where did I put my gang colours? Hot Girls & Dope Boys rolls with the same pimpin action but throws down old skool riffs in the drop-out with jump-up, bad-bwoy-Brixton-bass in the low-frequency, pure blinging. Last up Born To Bounce gets cheeky on the booty-shaking, bounce-that-ass lyrics with some serious bassline warbling, massive with Deekline I should imagine. Menu is running tings.
