Back Beat: Singles from the Island Vaults 1962
Founded in Kingston, Jamaica in 1959 by Chris Blackwell and Graeme Goodall, Island Records was set up to record Jamaican ska and rocksteady music. Chris Blackwell had a lasting influence on modern popular music helping West Indian music add a multicultural component to pop that continues today. This flashback to their earliest days showcases the likes of The Continentals, Lord Creator, Derrick Morgan and Jimmy Cliff.
