The Last Badjohn of Calypso
Kurt Allen began his Calypso career in 1983 when he sang The Budget in the Junior Monarch Competition in Trinidad. He continued to develop as a performer by campaigning in that competition for the next three years. From early he displayed his skills as a composer, writing songs for himself as well as his counterparts. In 1999 he made a significant switch to Soca and copped Soca Monarch title with the uptempo Dus' Dem. He achieved one of the high points of his career when he became the Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago in 2010 with his political masterpiece, Too Bright. This is one of many hits that are featured on his newest album, The Last Badjohn of Calypso.
