Love - Well Seasoned
The Anita Kerr Singers are probably one of the most popular singing groups in the nation. In a starring role, or as vocal backing for top recording stars both in the pop and country fields, their renditions have been heard throughout the world. Here, the group, accompanied by an orchestra conducted by Harold Bradley, offers a captivating and sparkling album that proves that love, regardless of its joys and heartbreaks, still manages to persist throughout the year – through every season. Orchestra and humming chorus background open the album with an upbeat Rustle Of Spring, which announces Spring’s arrival and love’s awakening. Sometimes Spring’s duration is short-lived and, like love, quickly passes by – the group tells about it in the wistful Spring Went That Way. Strolling Through The Park brings on warmer weather with a burst of vaudeville flavoring for this old-time favorite. Summer Serenade is an updating of the Victor Herbert classic that casts a fascinating spell in describing the wonders of the season. Then, the mood changes with the softly-tender interpretation of the beautiful folk tune, The Last Rose Of Summer. The side closes with an instrumental-chorus blending of the famous Tchaikovsky composition about the splendors of June. A finger-poppin’ treatment of Good Old Summertime opens the second side, followed by, as it must, Autumn. Every Autumn pictures the season as a time to come alive and when emotions grow, while Lonely Autumn sees it as a moody time when love has gone away. When Autumn Leaves – “winter rolls around, and a poor, aching heart remembers and dreams,” and then, to complete the picture, there’s Snow In Lover’s Lane. But, Snowbound proves that the weather’s not a hazard, for when two sweethearts are together “love’s as warm as Maytime.” And so, ‘Love – Well Seasoned’ has gone a full cycle another year.
