In his lifetime Huddie Ledbetter spent a childhood picking cotton, was imprisoned twice, acted as driver for ballad hunter John Lomax, toured with Blind Lemon Jefferson and recorded hundreds of songs. The King of the 12 string had a style and unique voice that inspired blues and folk musicians alike although he would see no remuneration in his lifetime. The amount of artists who have covered his songs and felt his influence is endless from Lonnie Donnegan to The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival to Led Zeppelin and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Jack White.
