Come and Get It: The Herald Records Story 1953-1962
Herald Records was founded in New Jersey in 1950 by Fred Mendelsohn (1914-1999), who had previously worked as a talent scout and songwriter for Savoy Records. Having seen low sales with his preferred Blues output he branched out and signed the likes of Faye Adams and Maurice Williams who provided much needed hits, but he never neglected his origins and released a handful of tunes by Texas blues legend Lightnin Hopkins. Although Herald Records may have been a minor label, it had no shortage of major hitmakers as the tracklist of our compilation shows.
