Charlie „Bird“ Parker was a leading force to establish bebop. He died much to soon at the age of 34, following a year-long drug addiction. Bird played at Norman Granz' live series Jazz At The Philharmonic in 1946 (accompanied by Lester Young, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Coleman Hawkins a.o.), 1949 (accompanied by Roy Eldridge, Lester Young, Ray Brown, Buddy Rich a.o.), and finally 1952 (accompanied by Benny Carter, Johnny Hodges, Oscar Peterson a.o.).
