Tamla Motown Connoisseurs 2
Compiled by Richard Searling and as he says in the intro notes better than the first in the series, and I have to agree this is a better compilation of records hence a rating of 4.5. The CD comes with good liner notes, which makes a lot of difference and shows that some homework has been done on the assembled artists. This should serve as an example to all compilers, that a few extra lines of information can make a whole lot of difference. On to the music, there's a good mix of previously unreleased material and B-sides etc.. The set kicks off with Marvin Gaye in fine form, then the previously unreleased song "What you gonna do with me baby" which totally blows out the water the theory that all unreleased material was unreleased because it was rubbish, obviously some of it was but not this track. In fact all the unreleased tracks on this CD are good. There's some Northern Soul stompers with Martha Reeves-You've been in love too long and The Velvellettes- let love live. Only one suspect track and that's the last one, otherwise every track is good.
