Selections From Road Atlas 1998 - 2011
This album is a collection of recordings culled from the eight tour-only CDs created and self-released by Calexico from 1998-2011. These CDs were sold only at Calexico’s live performances, but never available in record stores. The release of Selections From Road Atlas 1998-2011 coincides with the release of all of the tour CDs as a limited edition vinyl box set, which includes a 40 page book of photos and writings. Selections From Road Atlas 1998-2011 includes an 8 page booklet of photos from the book as well as liner notes by Fred Mills. Based in Tucson, AZ, the band, mostly known for their “Southwest” sound and vibe, has actually been a melting pot of various musical styles. Calexico effortlessly slide from world music to country/Americana to indie rock and jazz; sometimes all in the course of one song! The recordings contained in Road Atlas 1998-2011 and Selections showcase the lack of boundaries the band has held themselves to over the course of last fifteen years. In total the band have released six full-length albums, six original material tour albums (and two live tour albums), five EPs (one a collaboration with Iron & Wine), and a live DVD. Additionally, they have performed and recorded with notable musicians such as Andrew Bird, Neko Case, Amos Lee, Nancy Sinatra, Glen Hansard, and many more.
