The Top Rank Story 1962
The Top Rank record label was set up in 1959 by a British entertainment company founded in 1937 by J Arthur Rank. Rank sold the label to EMI in 1960, who continued to release material under a license agreement until April 1962. The year of 1962 will go down in music history as the year EMI's Parlophone imprint released the Beatles' first hit. Popular music would never be the same again, and Top Rank would sadly not be around to witness the revolution. Nevertheless this snapshot of music from four fertile months half a century ago still has very much the capacity to entertain.
