Pieces [Bonus Track Version]
by Ed Hogan Produced by Don Davis (Johnnie Taylor, the Dramatics), Bobby Womack's Pieces was released during disco's peak. Aside from a couple of tracks aimed in the direction of the dancefloor, the album sticks closely to the singer's soul music roots. Womack is joined by fellow soul veterans on a couple of tracks: David Ruffin (Davis produced his So Soon We Change and Gentleman Ruffin LPs) on the chugging single "Trust Your Heart" and Candi Staton on the ethereal ballad "Stop Before We Start." Womack has a way with songs about infidelity ("I Wish He Didn't Trust Me So Much"); this skill is put to good use on the swaying "Caught up in the Middle" and "When Love Begins Friendship Ends." Some of the album's tracks are on the Columbia CD At Home in Muscle Shoals, which was issued in August 1998.
