The SPEEDFREAKS were part of the early Milwaukee basement punk/hardcore scene. Forming in the Summer of 1984 and staying active throughout the next six years. The band self-released 'FREAKSHOW' in 1988 and quietly ceased to be in the Summer of 1992. Fast forward to Spring 2007, SPEEDFREAKS reunite to party with old and new friends. January 2009, after nearly two years of gigs, SPEEDFREAKS release the full-length album 'SURVIVE'. "F@#k yeah, throw the goat, grab your deck and let’s skate, *****es!!! Sorry, I got a little carried away there for a minute, must be this bloody band. Imagine ‘Join The Army’ era Suicidal jamming with Das Klown and JFA and you’ll be within spitting distance of what these crazed punkers sound like—a damn fine high-octane grind session soundtrack. As my old mucker Mike Beer City would say, “Gnarly!” Grab your wheels, I’ll see ya in the bowl!" - Tim Mass Movement/Mass Movement Magazine (UK) "Old School Vets Speedfreaks are back with a vengeance, showing all who have heard them that they're back better than ever. Standout songs include "Blitzkrieg", Born To Lose", and "Mass Hysteria", with cover artwork done by the infamous Joe Petagano, best known for his work with Lemmy and Motorhead. SPEEDFREAKS equals MILWAUKEE'S BEST" - Ginger Coyote/Punk Globe Magazine "A hard-charging, relentless powerhouse, this is the first release in 20 years from this very MOTORHEAD-inspired Milwaukee punk-speedmetal-hardcore locomotive. Formed in 1984 but dormant since 1990, they've come back tighter and harder than ever with some great songs. Epic album art by Joe Petagno (yes, the same guy responsible for all those iconic MOTORHEAD covers). LP in gatefold sleeve, pressed on 180 gram vinyl. CD with 8-page full color booklet with lyrics and photos." - Steve Tupper/Subterranean Records "20 years have passed since this band has released its debut album, but somehow they seem to have kept the freshness and vigorousness of their sound. That’s a proof that the band still has the same passion for creating music. SPEEDFREAKS, now, as their name shows, is an energetic band that plays a mixture of punk rock, metal and hardcore. All these elements are underlined and enhanced, in my opinion, by a slight rock ‘n’ roll vibe that is obvious in most of the songs. The album flows without tiring you one bit and I have to admit that there were quite a few times that made me bang my head while listening to their music. If I had to compare them with a specific band, I would say that they are close relatives of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, without though ever copying them. "Survive" is a good album that helps you blow some steam out of your system. Also the cover artwork is exceptional and if it brings to your mind MOTORHEAD, then I guess you are right, because Joe Petagno is the artist that made it. Some songs that I like and I believe are representative of the sound and attitude of the band are: “North Side Crew”, “Race to the Finish” and “View of Reality”." - Review by Nick "Verkaim" Parastatidis/Behind The Veil Webzine (GREECE) "This Milwaukee quartet churns out a whole new brand of punk rock with thirteen heavy tracks. They combine punk vocals with grinding riffs that pound like Motorhead, even the cover art resembles such. These guys glorify old school speed metal while staying true to their punk roots. The often absent bass lines in metal are remedied in songs like “View of Reality” and “Blitzkrieg” as the thumping record progresses. Epic album art, heavy guitar trends, and a message is what these veterans of the local scene bring to the table. This reunited group is definitely worth a second glance with their honest punk/hardcore release." - Review by Chris Fox/Maximun Ink Magazine
