A World Without End
I'm Soul, and this is my dream: A nice tune on a jazz funk influenced day. I write to a beat young, a whole hour old. It consumes me, this magic of marrying sounds and words, a voice orchestrated to rhythm. Rooted in the pulse of instruments and the warm confines of my sampler and drum machine, an organic medium takes place. Fender keys sit against this drumbeat, while that guitar riff exchanges with African percussion. I breathe lyrics that intertwine them all; and bear witness to what takes form. Everyday Music For Everyday People is how'd I call it; the sound that comes from a sincere place that equally displays life's joys and pains. A World Without End, my first full length offering, was birthed from this sound. A reflection of my life experiences growing up in Oakland, as well as the many influences that have sharpened my musical lens, and created an array of hues. From the dark and playful Bit of This, a heavy bass & guitar driven song about a club encounter, to the blue & politically charged Late in the Game, this is my modern-day hip-hop concept album. Got Me Holdin' On, an infectious love song with sultry female vocals infusing warmth into the 70's style guitar and bass instrumentation, is ironically followed up by the hard edged Love is Gone, a hard knocking tune that takes a sharp look at our society and the realization that everything aint alright. Love songs and tough life lessons: A World Without End has both extremes, and everything in between - just like life itself, especially a life lived out on the streets of Oakland.
