Old Novelties
Cash & Carry have been playing music together off and on for more than a decade. Currently, the band features MadDawg Yosemite, French, and Nikki Nameless. The Dawg has been involved with music in some form or another since learning guitar in middle school, inspired by the likes of the Beatles, Stones and various musical groups during the Golden Age of Guitar Rock. An accomplished guitarist, bassist, synthesis, songwriter and professed music studio geek, The Dawg is the production engine behind Cash & Carry. In his spare time, he collects custom made guitars, experiments with the latest music production software, and is frequently found on the Potomac River on one of his Stand Up Paddle Boards. Nikki Nameless, who defies all stereotypes, began singing as a youngster while washing dishes after dinner, during the long hours of family road trips, and in the comfort of her childhood rocking chair. Operatic voice lessons, a capella and elite choir groups, and a strong background in musical theatre all solidified her love for the dramatic and helped Nikki develop her unique sound. Inspired by the likes of Billy Holiday, Bonnie Rait, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Seal, Nikki brings lead vocals, lyrics, a handful of songs, and a bit o` the ivories to Cash & Carry. Outside of the studio, you'll find Nikki cruising the streets and paths of Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland on her beloved bicycle, often belting a tune while summiting a particularly challenging climb. French is possibly the best French pedal steel guitar player in Northern Virginia and has also been known to handle a Dobro and a Melobar. He is Cash & Carry’s wordsmith, having written hundreds of songs in both his native tongue and English. He was born in Paris, France, and came to the US as a teen whose first American purchase was a Silvertone guitar from Sears & Roebuck. He is also a published writer and novelist and his works came be found online under his assumed name of Thierry Sagnier. And a big thank you to Molly Block for the cover photo!
