Don't Lose Your Love
Written and recorded in the summer of 2014, Don't Lose Your Love brings you into the heart and mind of someone truly realizing the mistakes they've made in their life and, at the same time, all of the love in their life despite those mistakes. Catchy, yet deeply personal, the album will resonate with anyone who's ever loved and lost or, in this case...loved, lost and loved again. "I woke up in your arms this morning and I've never felt so alive before" from the opening song "Living to Be a Hundred", sets the listener up for an awakening of sorts. It's knowing that you've got to stop living like you're dying and instead, live for the ones you love. Songs like "With You (I Can Make It)", "Candy Girl" and "When She Looks at Me", were composed as two minute love letters to Brian's wife and daughters. Listen beyond the melodies and you can hear a husband and father reminding "his girls" how truly special they are to him and how he couldn't live without them. The title track "Don't Lose Your Love" is reminiscent of 80's era Paul McCartney from its opening electronic drum beat to the layered vocal harmonies and thumping bass groove. This was the first song that Brian wrote for the album and it became the theme for the record: a reminder that when life knocks you down, don't forget to hold on to the one you love. Brian took a risk in recording something a bit different with this song and it turned out to be a step in the right direction as a more mature songwriter. As with any Brian Jones album, there are a few dark, reflective moments here. With candid lyrics like, "It's so hard to be up when you're down" from the song "Up and Down" and "I've been so jealous, but why when I've got everything?" in the song "That Part of Me", Brian's vulnerability really shines through. One of his most personal songs to date, "Closer" was written as an ode to 2013, one of the most difficult periods in his life, but one that drew him even closer to his wife as they battled together through the difficulties of letting go. Brian is a songwiter who draws upon experience and sometimes you have to lay it all out there, bruises and all. It all ties together in this album's journey of truly loving the ones around you. With 10 new songs and 2 bonus acoustic versions, this album is fun, honest and nicely sprinkled with interesting Beatlesque songwriting moments. Always a lover of great artists and vinyl, Brian chose to dig deep into his music collection and found inspiration that became his new album Don't Lose Your Love.
