Love Stories
"Love Stories" is the fifth album by Promis. The stories are all true, and most come from California, notably the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles, and throughout Europe, in Paris, Athens, Brussels, Berlin, Rome, Marseille. The album is heavy on piano, and one has had to experience a bit of life to better relate to many of these songs, which are, hopefully, the stories that we all have in common. The album was co-produced and orchestrated by Ian Matthews, who worked on Promis' third album (Promis III). All of the songs were written by Jose Promis, except "Maybe We Can Write A Song," whose lyrics were penned by Irish writer Lesley Shannon, and "Lovesick," which was co-written by New York based Turkish producer/songwriter Ayhan Sahin. The original verion of "Lovesick" appeared on Promis' fourth album "Life is Grand!" The album has echoes and influences of a broad range of artists, ranging from Jacques Brel, Marianne Faithfull, Burt Bacharach, Leonard Cohen, Carole King, Nina Simone, Roberta Flack, k.d. lang, the Pet Shop Boys, Rufus Wainwright, Charles Aznavour, Scott Walker, Bryan Ferry, Enya, Sade, Simply Red and Ennio Morricone. Sit back, close your eyes, and take a trip to a place at once far away and exotic, yet very familiar...
