Banabila / Scanner

Banabila / Scanner

This special limited (300 hand numbered copies) vinyl edition marks the first time collaboration between Banabila and Scanner. SSW approached Banabila and Scanner with the idea to do a reinterpretation of each others tracks and one track of their own. Sharing a mutual passion for vinyl a release on 10 inch seemed to be the most suitable. Both artists agreed and took the creative challenge to see what they could add to 'Ears Tell Us Where We Are In Space' (Banabila) and 'The Radiance of a Thousand Suns Burst Forth at Once' (Scanner). The first track was taken off the album 'Precious Images' (2008) and features guitarist Anton Goudsmit. The second one was the title track of the album from 2005 released the year after Scanner performed these tracks in The Netherlands. Michel Banabila is a composer, producer and musician best known for his album 'VoizNoiz', which received critical acclaim internationally. In addition to acoustic instrumentation Banabila uses electronics, field recordings, recordings taken from radio, television and film and recordings made with vocoder plugs. His music is often described as cinematic and atmospheric. Banabila also makes musical contributions to film, television, theatre, video art and dance. The albums 'VoizNoiz', 'VoizNoiz 2' and 'Spherics' were released internationally on Tone Casualties (Los Angeles) and Pork Recordings (Hull/London). Traversing, disturbing and redefining the 'experimental terrain between sound, space, image and form,' Robin Rimbaud, aka Scanner, is a conceptual sound artist who aural landscape integrates anything from sonic snapshots of the city to the nomadic fragments of mobile phone conversations. In 2004 the Tate Modern commissioned Sound Surface as their first ever sonic installation, whilst permanent examples of his work can be heard in the Science Museum London (Sound Curtains) and the Raymond Poincaré hospital in Garches, France (Channel of Flight). Scanner has collaborated on projects with Radiohead, Steve McQueen, Michael Nyman and Philips Electronics. Scanner describes himself as a 'Minimalist anti-hero with an attraction towards alien activities in creativity.
