The Hymns Of Christmas
Highly respected solo artists in their own right, Jennifer Knapp and Margaret Becker combine as a vocal duo in what's certain to become a holiday classic. Here, the best of both artists unite to create a simple, yet stunning acoustic backdrop perfect for their elegant and inventive harmonies. Becker's familiar jazz stylings decorate standards like The First Noel while Knapp brings her folk-edge to Go Tell It On The Mountain. Together they revive lesser known hymns such as the Coventry Carol and Lo How A Rose E'er Blooming with stunning moments of beauty and strength. Arranged, produced and recorded by Knapp and Becker, this work breathes new life into 16th century classics with fresh and revitalized modern vocal harmonies and score . As producers, they give the listeners every bit of the elegance and core styles they demand to hear from the artists without settling for holiday kitsch. "It was a lot of fun, getting into the spirit of an low-budget, indie project. We had to make do with what we had. A couple of decent mics, aging computers, and a few friends - it was a lot like imagining the make-shift inn in Bethlehem," explained Knapp. "We wanted to showcase the songs - grab our guitars and sing the story of Christmas like we all got together around the fire on Christmas Eve."
