In the Darkness, The Path
From Atlanta, Ga, Cloak is comprised of Scott Taysom (guitar and vocals), Sean Bruneau (drums), Max Brigham (guitar), and Matt Scott (bass). While many bands choose to corner themselves with a limited sound, Cloak dares to defy genre classification by creating music that is dark yet palatable enough to lure a broad audience; with inspirations ranging from the destructive and penetrating progression of Dissection to the seductive and gothic melancholy of Fields of the Nephilim with the infectious grooves of Pentagram. On Samhain of 2015, Cloak entered Rising Tide Studios with Anthony Lunn to record their debut EP which was released by Boris Records in June of 2016. "In the Darkness, the Path" is a crushing mid-paced track that is by far the band's heaviest, while "The Hunger" presents an eerie, ghastly sound to close the record off. The lyrical concepts for each are just as important as the music itself, focusing on the spiritual transformation that opposes what most would deem as earthly truths. The result of the recording is one of pure chaos that haunts you well after the music is over. Cloak invites the listener to destroy your perception, open your hearts to the darkness, and venture to venomous depths!
