The Whole Ball O' Wax (feat. Larry Dunlap)

The Whole Ball O' Wax (feat. Larry Dunlap)

Sheet Music - including a Piano/Vocal arrangement as well as a Lead Sheet for this song - is available through sheetmusicplus - under Joel Evans / The Whole Ball o' Wax . . . Patrick Tuzzolino is a critically acclaimed jazz vocalist, pianist, guitarist, composer, and jazz producer. Patrick began performing with seasoned jazz musicians in his native New York during the 1970s, and continued to hone his craft in live venues throughout the West Coast since moving to California in the early 1980s. He has earned a devoted following in cities such as Olympia, WA; Santa Cruz, CA; Las Vegas; Palm Springs and the greater Los Angeles area. A consummate entertainer, Patrick is best known for playing key/bass accompanied by any sized ensemble. Whether appearing as a soloist or leading a duo, trio, quartet—or even big band—his performance is equally powerful and sincere. Patrick’s repertoire covers the full range of jazz genres plus original compositions. He makes every tune his own with his trademark vocal styling and unique interpretation. Fans and fellow musicians love Patrick for his extraordinary generosity both on stage and in the studio; Patrick gets inside the music and takes everybody with him. The roster of professional entertainers that Patrick is proud to have shared a stage with includes Jack Jones, Milton Berle, Red Buttons, Connie Stevens, Lanie Kazan, Nancy Sinatra, Hal Linden, Norm Crosby, Dick Van Dyke, Steve Rossi, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Will Smith, Rene Taylor, Buddy Greco, Ray Anthony, and many others. He has also performed and recorded with legends such as Jon Hendrix, Joe Sample, Herbie Hancock, Carl Fontana, Sam Most, Sam Butera, Branford Marsalis, Sheryl Lee Ralph, the Count Basie Alumni Band, Stevie Wonder, Frankie Capp's Juggernaut Big Band and Sarah Vaughn. Renowned as a jazz artist, Patrick can easily step out of the genre as both a composer and performer. This versatility can be heard on the diverse film and television soundtracks he has contributed to over the past 20 years. Many of his songs continue to be used in film and other media on an ongoing basis. In 2002 he won a 2nd place Maddy Award for his vocal work on the “Do it eBay” campaign. Composer/Songwriter/Producer Joel Evans has songs & cues in more than 85 movies and 350 TV episodes; major Hollywood films, hip indie flicks, network and daytime dramas; ranging from Wedding Crashers to Hateship, Loveship (Kristin Wiig); and from Friends to Glee. The 2014 Daytime Emmy winning special Young & Restless Tribute to Jeanne Cooper features Joel's song, “That’s When I’ll Stop Loving You” as its main theme. Ciroq Vodka TV and radio ads highlight his Big Band number, "Fly Away." Grammy-winning vocalist Carmen Bradford sings his song, "No Easy Way To Say Goodbye” on tour with the Count Basie Orchestra. Evan's songs have been recorded by diverse artists, including Spencer Day, Dave Samuels, Hillary Smith, Shaun Murphy, Roberta Donnay, The Yellowjackets and Peter Tork. (the former Monkee has a great blues band!) After earning his BA on flute at Cal State University East Bay he performed with a series of groups, and quickly realized the fortunes of a jazz flautist were capricious at best. “We did one gig where the pay didn't even cover our bar tab,” he notes wryly. Later, a stint on piano backing Bobby Freeman (“Do You Wanna Dance”) took Evans to Tahoe and Reno, where watching the rock godfather reiterate the same patter night after night further inspired him to improvise. Life imitates art: in the film Rumor Has It, Kevin Costner and Jennifer Aniston share a conversation while the Joel Evans Combo paints the aural backdrop in the same San Francisco hotel bar where he once worked a steady piano gig. Evans’ Hollywood-sophisticated melodies are often used on screen to evoke sumptuous surroundings like hotel lobbies and upscale restaurants, so it’s no coincidence that he spent years performing in just these types of venues as a live player. Swing, big band and jazz: he occupies a decided stylistic niche. “I can’t do everything. I don’t write stuff that’s like what’s on the radio. I decided early on to hell with it, I’m going to do what I love.” Unlike many instrumental composers, Evans usually co-writes complete songs. “Until it Happens to You” from Mini’s First Time provided an improbable soundtrack to a fight scene with stars Jeff Goldblum and Alec Baldwin “trying to kill one another, with my Sinatra style swing thing in the background,” laughs Evans. He notes that one of his most unexpected inclusions was in the gritty rock and roll noir film, Sugartown, where his sweet song, “Moody” played behind, as he delicately phrases it, “The depiction of an act of love. But it fit the scene.” A self-professed team player, Evans enlists first call musicians who can deliver the requisite tones; veterans like Bernadette Peters' favorite bassist, Mario Suraci and David Rokeach from the Ray Charles band; seasoned authorities who helped invent the genres his compositions reference. Talented Co-writers like Nashville-based Lisa Aschmann and pop/theatrical writer Adryan Russ contribute their magic to the sterling credibility of the songs. (Bio by Dan Kimpel) Co-writer/Lyricist/Songwriter/Performer/Recording Artist Lisa Aschmann has an emotional style that's pure, simple and sincere. Her musical styles include folk, R&B, jazz, gospel, country, pop, bluegrass, Latin & Celtic-inflected music. Less common, but still part of her catalog include some rock, rockabilly, Cajun, classical and Calypso music. Varied and “out-of-the-box” thinking contributes to this diverse creative ability. With Joel Evans, she's co-written lots of source cues for film and television, including: Sleeping with Other People, Criminal Minds, Shameless, West Wing, Bones, Numb3rs, My Name Is Earl, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Providence, Sex & the City, America's Top Models, and The X-Files. Lisa has appeared in a variety of venues, including The San Francisco Folk Festival, Western Workers Labor Heritage Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, the International Womens' Music Festival in Beer Sheva, Israel, Web Radio, and house concerts. Her book, 1000 Songwriting Ideas is a source of inspiration for songwriters and is published by Hal Leonard. Lisa has given many songwriting workshops all over the country, including PSGW (Puget Sound Guitar Workshop), CCMC (California Coastal Music Camp), Belmont University, Vanderbilt University, Camp Harmony, NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International), WCS (West Coast Songwriters), Frank Brown Festival SGA (Songwriters Guild of America), Indie Connect, Club Passim, and Foothill College.
