Broken tone
In the summer of 1995, Nicklas Sandström (vocals, guitars) Anders Alstrin (electric guitars), Mattias Olsson (percussion ) and Tobias Ljungkvist (bass, backing vocals) started working on a collection of songs. Now 6 demos, 2 EPs and more than 70 gigs later their third ep and full-length CD is about to be released this autumn. Since the start of the band there has always been an eerie feeling of urgency. A feeling that the songs and the music contains emotions and feelings that can't be kept on hold. Reminder have always been very certain about their musical goals. To create music that would be very close to their own experiences and emotions. An intimate and personal kind of music. All their recordings to this date are the results of that ambition. Containing songs ranging from the abrasive to the acoustically sublime, Reminder aren't willing to let the listener out of their grip. Reminder has recorded 2 EPs so far. The first EP simply called Reminder was recorded during the height of the cold Swedish winter in 98/99 at various locations around Stockholm. The prestigous Emi-studio, the bands rehearsal room and at the members own homes. The reason for this was to keep the recording close at heart with the band and to let everyone record in an environment that would allow all the members to feel comfortable while recording. The second called Half Empty was recorded during the summer of 1999. This ep showed a more instrumented Reminder enhanced with Stringquartets, Marimbas and Stylophones. Taking a short break for writing and excessive gigging the band took a year until starting the recordings for the third EP and to finalize the album. The larger part of March was spent touring the U.S playing such prestiguos venues such as the Buffalo club in Austin and the Viper room in L.A. Thriving on those influences and experiences, the band went into the classic Atlantis studio for the basic tracks and then did additional recordings wherever the instruments were to be found. By using various unique instruments and mixing techniques a very special and personal album was created. The band has always been interested in experimenting with instrumentation to create a special blend of sounds and atmospheres. Based around acoustic guitar and vocals the material has grown over the four years the band had been together. On this first release analog keyboards such as mellotrons and moog synthesizers were recorded along side african percussion, melodicas and accordions. Everything to keep the music unique and personal. The reviews in Sweden have all been very positive and cites Reminder as being one of the most promising Swedish groups around. By blending sensitive and delicate songs with innovative recordings we can only agree. Reminder is a truly unique and special group with a very promising future ahead of them.
