My World
As a hip-hop oriented group DMP, (AVI's group) was influenced by artists such as: Kanye West, Ray Charles, Jay-Z, Beanie Segal, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Jadakiss, Styles P, Eminem, Jimi Hendrix and Nas, just to name a few. The soul purpose of their writing style is to show people that there is more to hip-hop music than just rapping about club bangers, gangbanging and materialistic possessions. They just want to change the way people perceive west-coast music. DMP: AVI Gindratt, Nate Johnson, Sean Barard, DaShawn King and Matt Vasquez have become not only close friends during the past five years they have also become true poets that masterfully deliver their urban-based writing style on solid Hip Hop beats and rhythms. The boys have known each other since Middle School and were involved in musical activities in school as well as in Church, but it wasn’t until their senior High School year, that they realized how their special poetic and musical talents came into play. At this point, DaShawn and David had won several poetry contests, Sean and Matt were successful Freestyle Battlers at West Covina High School and Nate was a member of his church choir at St. Steven’s. They were five solo acts who joined together to do what they love, write poetry and make music. The group began making music in January, 2004 when David received a beat machine and a recorder for Christmas. Everyday after basketball practice the group would experiment with David’s gifts. After just a few weeks, in a spare bedroom in David’s house they set up their own home studio and began producing beats, writing lyrics and composing music. In addition to their studio equipment they would use instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and keyboard. They learned how to record them selves on a CD and within months their first album of 19 songs was created and sold throughout the city of West Covina. They soon earned enough money to buy better recording equipment that led to the production of five more CDs. People quickly took a clinging to their music and were left in anticipation of their next album. All this was accomplished while maintaining excellent grades.
