Primitivo Santos y Su Orquesta
From the 1960s to the 1990s Primitivo Santos was a prolific producer of latin music in New York, arranging and playing funky salsa, descargas and merengue popular at the time. Up until the 2000s he still occasionally performed with his own orchestra in Miami. This album contains a diverse mix of styles including merengue, descargas, guaguanco and plena. His orchestra has three trumpets and two saxophones as well a full percussion section. Primitivo plays piano and he is joined by Fania legend Bobby Quesada on trumpet. Handling the vocals is Pedro Lombillo. Primitivo was born in the Dominican Republic, and from an early age he was recognized as a musical prodigy. Leading his own band from the age of seventeen he had much success with his progressive interpretations of various Caribbean rhythms especially the Dominican merengue. Musical direction is by Primitivo Santos and the arrangements are by Ramon Quezada, Ruben Rivera, and Primitivo Santos.
