You're Not Supposed to Smoke the Bluegrass
This is a bluegrass song that brought a few friends together who met and played music at The 2nd Annual John Hartford Memorial Festival 2012 at Bean Blossom, Indiana. I wrote this song as a joke and it became a fun song to play so it ended up getting recorded during a jam session outside cabin 8. There were something like 12 takes of this song recorded at this jam session and this was the one that was decided on. The lead guitar parts are played by me, Ray Lawrence Jr. and I sing the lead vocals. Then on the rhythm guitar and harmony vocals is Chris Pin. On the upright bass, what some call doghouse bass or bull fiddle and playing that is Scott Nelson, bass player and vocalist for The Flatland Harmony Experiment and he is also singing some harmony on this track. There is yet another harmony singer and that would be Evan Slusher. On the 5 string banjo is Justin Hughey from the band, New Old Calvary. Mr Keith Kreider is the man who recorded this song and Mr. John Hotze is directing the show and in charge of the John Hartford Memorial festival. This festival is all about music, performing, jamming, writing songs and most of all making friends and having fun. The John Hartford Memorial Festival performances take place on 3 stages and in this music park. The Bill Monroe Music Park and Camp Ground is home to Bluegrass music and many festivals. It was a huge honor to be able to play and also write and record a song there. There is a complete studio bluegrass album in the works. This is just an introduction to my fans another style of music I love to play.
