Sunsets
IndianRaga brings together the best young musicians today to present Indian classical music in a way that is relevant and accessible to a younger, global audience today. The music is composed in traditional Indian classical style but presented in a refreshing, modern-day format. Sunsets was composed and performed at the 2013 IndianRaga Fellowship in New York City by Roopa Mahadevan (Vocals), Rishi Armstrong (Vocals), Harsha Nagarajan (Vocals), and Akshay Anantapadmanabhan (mridangam). This composition evokes emotions and situations from our daily lives and relationships through Indian classical ragas. The setting sun, and the lyrics of the bandish ‘Aajra Din Dooba’, against the backdrop of relationships and the catharsis of moving on from them. The IndianRaga Fellowship brings together the most talented Indian classical musicians in North America, selected by a panel of 11 international judges. The program gives talented young musicians an opportunity to work intensively on a new creative idea in a team, with the support of facilitators in an environment that encourages innovation and creative risk-taking. Fellows engage in an artistically rigorous process to create a visual experience for their music, and to make Indian classical music relevant to a global audience. IndianRaga Fellows become part of a growing network of peers and collaborators to support their life-long musical journey.
