Simply Confused
Jazz meets Hip-Hop. Rapper/songwriter, Alan Gold (a.k.a. Element), is an 18 year old from Nanaimo, B.C., Canada. Being heavily influenced by Hip-Hop and rappers such as Slug of Atmosphere, Eminem, Mos Def and many others, Element's sound is based on the rawness of old-school with a clash of story telling and imagery. Teaming up with two incredibly talented jazz musicians in Nanaimo, Michael Mlikotic (a.k.a. Floatybro) and Joshua Rey (a.k.a Junior) or (JR), the group managed to release a seven song EP entitled "Small Victories" and later, a 16 song LP "Simply Confused". Both in the time frame of eight months. The incorporations of Jazz theory into the Hip-Hop music created by the group, make for an amazing mixture of sounds. What Element stands by, is that real instruments make real music, and that raw emotions make raw lyricism. "My music is here for a very simple purpose...the ears that really listen" - Element
