The man affectionately known to many simply as “Tru” has always had an attraction to the written and spoken word. From his early days in his native Jersey City, NJ, reciting nursery rhymes as a toddler, he has shown a love for rhyme and syncopation. This is evident in his writing today, which combines rhyme flows that draw comparisons to Nas, Common and Guru, powerful messages that conjure up thoughts of KRS-ONE, and loving, sensual expressions that put you in the mood of the Isley Brothers and Stevie Wonder, all who are strong musical influences. Unable to be categorized in one particular style, Tru is just a writer. Whatever comes into his mind and heart is what comes out in his words. Whether it’s social, economical, political, sexual, or philosophical, Tru writes what he feels at the moment.
