The Art of Martha Argerich
Drawing on recordings Martha Argerich made for Deutsche Grammophon and Philips over a period that lasted almost 50 years, this three-disc limited edition package encapsulates her career and provides a broad sampling of her repertoire. Starting with her 1961 recording of Chopin's Scherzo No. 3 in C sharp minor, and concluding with her 2009 reading of Schubert's Rondo in A major, the survey presents her work in chronological order and shows her in many roles, as a solo artist, a concerto virtuoso, and in later recordings, a performer of chamber music. The first part of Argerich's career found her recording much solo piano music, but since the 1980s she recorded more frequently with other musicians, such as violinist Gidon Kremer and cellist Mischa Maisky, and her role as a collaborator is well-documented here.
