Strung Out on Kid A: The String Quartet Tribute to Radiohead
In the tradition of Strung Out on OK Computer comes Vitamin's Strung Out on Kid A. Like its counterpart, the album retraces Radiohead's steps track by track, only this time the subject is the atmospheric and brittle Kid A. Tom Tally (on violin and viola) and cellist John Acosta do a fine job re-creating the album's quietly surging melodies. They can't always find one to follow; after all, the original had its more insular moments, too. But "National Anthem," "How to Disappear Completely," and "Idioteque" (check out the plucked percussion line) are still strong, and will be of interest to Radiohead devotees. ~ Johnny Loftus
