The Trouble with Angels (Original Sound Track Recording)
One of Jerry Goldsmith's beloved early albums at last gets issued on CD from first generation stereo album masters! Accompanying this 1966 gem is world premiere of complete original film soundtrack in mono! Ida Lupino directs, Rosalind Russell, Hayley Mills star. Attending all-Catholic boarding school run by group of nuns, Mills plays pranks, romps with friends, runs afoul of Mother Superior (Russell). Running beneath humor of tale is simultaneous story about love, faith and sacrifice. As film progresses, humor dissipates and genuine heartfelt story comes to surface. Jerry Goldsmith captures both ideas in expert meld of warm humor for comic episodes, incredibly tender sensitivity during serious episodes. (Keen ears will even pick up quote of theme from Hoosiers twenty years before its time!) Goldsmith selected 12 tracks for his 1966 album, assembled them from short cues into beautiful record that covered ample territory in its 29-minute duration. Intrada proudly offers that stereo album finally from first generation masters, exhibiting detail and clarity never before heard, courtesy Time/Mainstream Records Group. Hearing delicate ideas for solo violin, solo clarinet, combined strings with piano, other haunting sequences reminds one of Goldsmith's immediate predecessor, A Patch Of Blue while actually looking forward to harmonic vernacular of following project The Blue Max. But there's more: World premiere of complete score allows listener to hear all of Goldsmith's cues, intentionally scored as brief, fully-rounded little vignettes, as per needs of this unique movie. We retain them all as he recorded them. Enjoy several previously unreleased cues from moving, more serious parts of score. Also enjoy beautiful choral arrangement of 'Angels We Have Heard On High' that plays during key scene. A rare movie treat and a beautiful Jerry Goldsmith CD to treasure! Arthur Morton orchestrates, Fred Steiner adapts marching band arrangements, Jerry Goldsmith composes & conducts.
