Whatever It Takes

Formerly of the Greenwich Village band The DISTRICT, who went on hiatus after a couple of LPs and tours, RON POPE being the workhorse he is, started up a solo career that in just a year had him selling thousands of singles and entertaining offers from major labels. Choosing to sign with Universal Republic, he subsequently ended up on MTV’s TRL and found placement on Fox’s 'So You Think You Can Dance’. It was during one of these placements that listeners started to pick up on POPE’S introspective and earnest balladry, and two of his albums exploded onto the iTunes top album chart- a feat rarely seen by artists who aren’t household names. These days POPE has parted ways with Universal Republic, though he’s still a music making machine, his new effort Whatever It Takes seeing a street date of April 12 on his own label. This time around he’s backed with a full band and sometimes a choir, and the production has a very polished, slick feel, highlighting his booming, loud rock anthems mixed with quieter, sparse and emotive moments. A songwriter who pens stories straight from the heart, his songs are soulful, riddled with sincerity and intimacy, tugging at heartstrings and leaving you empathizing with his deft wordplay. Full of fiery blues-rock guitar work, pop melodies and with a robust, unmistakable voice, POPE has already sold 300,000 singles on iTunes and his first single ‘A Drop In The Ocean’ has garnered over 8 million views on youtube.
