Tapes
Bloc Party are the latest band to announce the release of a 'Tapes' mix for Berlin-based record label !K7. The compilation will be released on October 14 and was mixed by frontman Kele Okereke. Foals and Friendly Fires have contributed to the 'Tapes' series in the past and Bloc Party look set to continue the trend of showing fans the dance music that has inspired their songs across the years. Speaking about his love of the genre, Okereke says Bloc Party have "always respected dance music," He added: "It’s where lots of ideas for our songs started. Our first single, 'She's Hearing Voices', was very much inspired by the image of people dancing. Rhythm and groove has always been important to the band and I wanted to reflect that. I guess it's something that I’m taking further with this mix." The release features tracks by Wookie, French Fries and Wiley as well as Bloc Party's 'Obscene' remixed by Okereke himself. However, the frontman says this solo project doesn't spell the end of Bloc Party. "If anything this will be to the betterment of Bloc Party," he argues. "It’s like having an affair, then being able to come back home and realising what it is that you have. I don’t think exploring this electronic world will be to the detriment of Bloc Party. Quite the opposite." Read more at http://www.nme.com/news/bloc-party/72460#pwfvO3xE42BtIxXx.99
