Love At Large (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
By CD & VIDEO RESEARCHER“festivalcds” This is an interesting soundtrack, blending the talents of Mark Isham, Warren Zevon, Anne Archer, and Leonard Cohen, among others. Zevon, billed with Isham, is actually only present for two tracks -- a version of "You Don't Know What Love Is" (also performed in a slinky blues setting by Anne Archer) and "Searching For A Heart," which may be the flattest track on the album. Grady Walker is the vocalist on "Don't Cry For Me." The Leonard Cohen song, "Ain't No Cure For Love," from 1988, is a typical Cohen number, full of an artist's weary cynicism and many of the usual Cohen phrases. Which, of course, makes it a great Leonard Cohen number. Isham's score almost falls into the trap of being new age-styled, but carefully steps up from it to incoporate blues and jazz elements, some stylish classical references and lots of sneaky cinematic references. It's by and large a clever score, interesting to listen to, and able to jog you awake once in a while after appealing to the dream state. Not everyone's cup of tea, perhaps, but all-around solid stuff and very good music.
