The Three Musketeers (Original Sountrack)
by Adam GreenbergThe soundtrack for Disney's Three Musketeers starts off with the single released from it -- a super-trio of Sting, Bryan Adams, and Rod Stewart doing "All For Love." This is potentially the high point of the album, in the sense that all other tracks are essentially instrumental (and choral) score material. A good deal of the material is basic action movie stuff, along with the occasional period piece (fanfares, vaguely French tinges in classical-based compositions). Kamen did a good job of writing the compositions to fit such a movie, taking both ends of the necessary works and piecing them together in a manner to profit the movie. Without the movie, something is certainly lost, however, the music is actually well enough designed as to have the ability to stand without the movie's accompaniment. For a nice working of various action movie backings along with basic contemporary classical works, this isn't too bad an album. And, for kicks, the British commonwealth's '80s pop scene is covered in a single song.
