Live At Paddy Reillys

This was The McCabes' first ever CD. We recorded it one week before St Patrick's Day in 2001 at the legendary New York Irish club, Paddy Reillys. A lot of bands got their start here, which some have called the CBGB's of Irish venues. For example, Black 47, Eileen Ivers, Speir Mor, Rogues March, Tony de Marco (who still runs a session there every Thursday-New York's longest running session), and many others. We started our residency in Paddy Reillys' at the beginning of 2001 and such was the response to our shows that owner Steve Duggan suggested that we do a live recording. We needed no further prompting. We got the recording gear in and had the soundman press 'record'. We left it at that. We didn't edit a thing, not even wrong notes...! The result was 'Live At Paddy Reilly's', and yes we did add a bonus studio track called 'Have A guinness Everday' which was written by myself and then drummer Lez Warner (formerly of The Cult'). Some of the songs on this album are now staples of the Irish scene around the country, being performed often by other bands and singers. We have made better recordings of some of these songs ourselves but what is best about this album in my opinion is the 'live' spirit. Everyone is having fun, including the crowd, and more so as the night goes on (I wonder why!). The album went out of print for a few years but because of the consistency of demand for a reprint I finally decided to do it this year 2008, with my return to New York. And to this day, 'Live at paddy Reilly's' by The McCabes, remains the only live album ever recorded by a band in that famous venue. Cheers, Sean.
