Beasts of the Southern Wild (Music from the Motion Picture)
One of the must see movies from Sundance and winner of the dramatic selection of the World Cinema Jury Prize and the Prix de Camera d'Or at Cannes is also one of this summer's most promising indie releases and the music on the Beasts of the Southern Wild Soundtrack is also highly touted as well. The score is co-written by director Behn Zeitlin and Fire Flies front man Dan Romer who also collaborated with Zeitlin on the Glory at Sea Soundtrack in 2008. Beasts of the Southern Wild, loosely based on a bluegrass musical called "Juicy and Delicious" by playwright Lucy Alibar holds all the promise of being this season's most imaginative indie break-out release with the same kind of Oscar buzz as 2011's The Artist. What's up in the air with the movie in a conservative limited release is whether the music will be released as a stand alone soundtrack. Given director Behn Zeitlin has released music for a short like Glory at Sea, there's hope he'll push for the same with this charmer of a movie.
