The ‘Shanghai Tang Lounge Collection’ is a new album of lounge music co-produced with 5x platinum selling recording artist / international music producer Ian Widgery and award winning composer and music producer Morton Wilson from Schtung Music. The album is brought to life with three intensions. To begin with, music is a logical and natural extension of Shanghai Tang’s mission to deliver a lifestyle vision of contemporary Chinese chic. Secondly, the recent opening of Shanghai Tang Café in Xintiandi, Shanghai, inspired the desire for its own music to complement a truly unique brand ambiance. With this first restaurant-bar, Shanghai Tang has already enticed its customers with the sense of taste, and now it is taking one step further by offering the vibrant sense of sound with this album. Finally, it is Ian Widgery and Morton Wilson’s talent and recognition in music production that fostered this creative collaboration. There are four key components to Shanghai Tang Lounge Collection. There are the 30s remixes like Crazy Band; new rearrangements of existing classics such as Ye Lai Xiang; and then there are the brand new original compositions including I Like It, Take A Ride, Million Miles Away, and Don’t Change, which are composed and performed by talents from all over the world. In particular, the inspiration for I Like It came from a few snapshots that Mr. Wilson took during a beautiful Sunday stroll nearby Shanghai Tang Café. He describes the creation as inspired and effortless, and that “the song wrote itself, really…”. Enlivening the fashion element of the brand, the album also includes three bonus runway mixes in order to satiate the fashionable urbanites. The Shanghai Tang Lounge Collection captures the spirit of genuine creativity - blending Chinese traditional tunes with contemporary musical arrangements, and features performances by up and rising Chinese divas and instrumentalists such as Isabella Huang Lin and Li Ya. The result is a cosmopolitan mix of music that is delightfully harmonious and joyous.
